France secures host role, paving the way to ERIC as IBISBA enters DIALS project
Following the successful completion of PREP-IBISBA, the ‘Preparatory Phase of IBISBA,’ significant strides have been made in laying the foundation for IBISBA’s legal status. Building upon the achievements of PREP-IBISBA, the focus now shifts to the DIALS project.
This new phase aims to complete preparatory work and launch IBISBA as an ERIC (European Research Infrastructure Consortium). DIALS (Delivering Infrastructure As A Legal Structure) will play a crucial role in equipping future IBISBA-ERIC with the necessary tools and operational procedures, such as legal entity statutes, governance model, strategic and financial plans, and management structure for immediate functionality upon establishment.
Led by a core group of partners representing committed EU member countries, DIALS will establish IBISBA as a landmark research infrastructure in industrial biotechnology within the European RI landscape. This initiative supports the development of smart biomanufacturing and enhances Europe’s technological development capacity, scientific performance, innovation, and competitiveness. Significantly, the project will strengthen IBISBA-ERIC’s stakeholder base, expand its reach across Europe and beyond, and enhance its international visibility. Finally, DIALS will reinforce IBISBA’s scientific and technological excellence, integrating responsible research and innovation practices and supporting training and education in industrial biotechnology.
In Spring, France was strategically designated to host IBISBA-ERIC, which will be managed by INRAE, further solidifying IBISBA’s presence in Europe’s biotechnology landscape. Shortly before, the European Commission announced measures to bolster biotechnology and biomanufacturing, emphasising IBISBA’s leading role in enhancing EU competitiveness.
