About the Platform 

RI-IBBA (Milan-Lodi) (Institute of Agricultural Biology and Biotechnology) is focused on the optimisation of protein expression and secretion in eukaryotic hosts, analysis of protein folding in the co- and post-translational modifications during the secretory pathway, environmental metagenomics for the identification of novel microorganisms and for the screening of industrial enzymes.

RI-IBBA (Milan-Lodi) is a division of the CNR_ProtEnz multisite research infrastructure (RI), located in Italy. ProtEnz research activities are focused on discovery, production, characterization, and engineering of proteins and enzymes, in particular on those from extremophilic microorganisms, for applications in green chemistry, synthetic biology, sustainable bioenergy, and in pharmaceutical/agroindustrial processes.


This service provides scientific and technical support, with state-of-the-art analytical tools for the production, identification, quantification, separation and characterization of native or recombinant proteins in biological samples. All cases will be individually studied, choosing the best platform for protein expression and purification. Recombinant proteins will be produced in prokaryotic or eukaryotic systems (plant cells, transgenic plants, yeast), by using highly efficient recombinant protein expression strategies.

Protein folding, assembly, post-translational modification, targeting and sorting localisation, turnover will be analysed.

We also provides service of scientific and technical support for the metagenomic and/or metabarcoding analyses of different environmental samples (soil, water, gut, etc). A fully operational genome facility with two Illumina Next generation Integrated systems, Droplet Digital PCR, QuantStudio Real-Time PCRs, computer farm equipment for data analysis and storage is available.
