FIN-BioFoundry Selected for Finland's 2025–2028 Research Infrastructure Roadmap
The Finnish BioFoundry for Synthetic Biology and Biomanufacturing (FIN-BioFoundry) has been selected for inclusion in Finland’s National Research Infrastructure Roadmap for 2025–2028, a decision made by the Research Council of Finland in December 2024.
This marks an important step in the development of Finland’s national node within the IBISBA ESFRI/ERIC network. Coordinated by the VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland Ltd., with partners including Aalto University, the University of Turku, and Tampere University, FIN-BioFoundry is now on track to strengthen its role in synthetic biology and biomanufacturing research.
The goal of FIN-BioFoundry is to offer a comprehensive platform for advancing research and education in synthetic biology, biomanufacturing, and related fields. As part of its development, it will support Finland’s transition toward a circular bioeconomy and contribute to both national and international scientific collaboration.
Being included in the national roadmap confirms the importance of FIN-BioFoundry in Finland’s research landscape, providing it with necessary funding as part of a €130 million investment in selected infrastructures. This support will help ensure that FIN-BioFoundry remains capable of addressing emerging scientific challenges, particularly in bioproduction and synthetic biology, while contributing to the broader goals of the research community.
The inclusion of FIN-BioFoundry in this roadmap is a key step in its ongoing consolidation as the Finnish node of IBISBA, reinforcing its role in European and global research networks.
