IBISBA’s Application to Become an ERIC
is Launched!
On 13 March 2025, the French Ministry for Higher Education and Research (MESR) formally requested the European Commission to launch the process leading to the creation of IBISBA-ERIC.
As the prospective host country, the MESR secured endorsements from ministerial authorities in seven partner countries.
In Step 1, the European Commission, assisted by experts, will assess the IBISBA-ERIC application for compliance and provide feedback. This phase typically takes around six months. In parallel, the IBISBA community will continue preparing for implementation by refining its operational guidelines and policies.
Since being highlighted in the Commission’s 2024 Communication on Biotech and Biomanufacturing, IBISBA has gained significant visibility. Policymakers, research institutions, advocacy groups, and industry stakeholders are closely following the initiative and supporting its progress.
The launch of this process marks an important milestone for IBISBA, bringing us one step closer to establishing a European Research Infrastructure dedicated to industrial biotechnology.
